EDC is an individual's personal selection of small tools and equipment they carry on a daily basis.

For most people the selection of these items doesn't come lightly and involves careful consideration. Many factors considered for these items are usefulness, reliability, compactness, weight and aesthetics. A person's environment, location, budget and personal preferences result in an almost infinite variety of EDC load-outs. However you'll notice there always seems to be a few core items that most people will carry, such as pocket knives, flashlights and multi-tools.

EDC is also more than just the things you carry in your pockets. It's also the spirit or ideology of being prepared. And the desire to be prepared brings with it a thirst for knowledge and self education. The more we know about the "tools" that are available, the better we can prepare ourselves. Sharing and commenting on the gear we carry improves our equipment knowledge and can even help us improve our own EDC.

I consider what EDC means is a sharing of knowledge of items with a single purpose or dual purpose that an individual has been carrying . Not realizing that a single item that was used for one function could have a dual purpose that they have been carrying . Then someone comes along with the same mind set of being prepared and enlightens you with the idea of more functions of a single item that gets passed along until it becomes a ideology of what every day carry means to each individuals uniqueness . Hence forth creating an atmosphere of knowledge for simple items needed for your daily tasks that are specific to ones on challenges that anyone can recognize by coining a phrase of words meaning every day carry .

BTW, EDC NEVER fits in a nutshell for very long. ;)
It starts out like that, but before long you have spares, extra's, multiple packs, and in general a lot of indispensable things you had no idea existed for most of your life. Forget the nutshell. You need at least a prehistoric-sea-tortoise shell to haul all of it.

Never knew it was called EDC, I just always liked stuff. Even as a kid I had an affinity for collecting gizmos and gadgets. Loved the small mechanical stuff and knives and tools and taking things apart.

In that case, I've had GAS for a long time, and it's been bad. My wife complains about my GAS occasionally but she's learned to live with it. I have to confine my GAS to certain rooms of the house too.

...or, help getting another Benchmade - or two lol.

I have yet to own an Benchmade, but the year is young :)

It's definitely an abundance of flashlights, for me. Can't get enough of them; but I find myself getting more and more picky about which ones I buy, now that I have definite tint preferences, etc.

My Gear Acquisition Sydrome used to be for guitar and sound equipment; but now it's more along the lines of EDC stuff (mainly flashlights and flashlight-related products).

That'd probably be the one with which I start.
I forgot, you can order your Benchmade, customized. I could spend all day, just deciding between all the possible variations!
