I tested out my Vortex Venom on my Glock 41 MOS last weekend. I was thinking of duplicating the setup on a G19 for EDC. Here’s a quick video of what it will easily do out to 100 yards.

nice rig. and even better shooting.

does the red dot add any noticeable weight?

i've never held/shot a pistol with a red dot sight. nor have i even picked up a red dot sight for a pistol; only the one on my AR. it's the vortex strikefire, so i'd assume the one for pistols is much lighter since it's considerably smaller.

i've tried my glock 19 at 100 yds and only rang the steel one time out of 10 shots. of course i was using the stock sights with no red dot or anything. i just wanted to see if i could hit it at that distance. i got lucky and hit it once, lol.

It weights roughly an ounce. The problem with shooting at 100 yards is seeing where you’re missing so you can adjust. If I sighted the G41 in at 100 yards it would be easier to hit. I keep it sighted a 10 yards, so the hard part was just figuring out where the holdover was. I highly recommend a red dot for at least one if you’re pistols. They don’t replace iron sights, but they are a nice addition in certain applications.

    Don't.

Roughly 150 hours of battery life (~6 days) isn't the problem...you just have to buy a crap ton of batteries. The 14-hour auto-shutoff is a non-starter.

Yeah...it's manageable. You can just twiddle the adjustments every few hours. But...that incurs unnecessary gun handling (always the chance of a mistake) and gives a very serious risk of just mising one of the times so that when you draw the gun, the dot isn't there.

RMRs and Aimpoints are the top choices for red dots on defensive handguns as far as I'm concerned. A lot of people are saying the DP Pro works fine as well, and I'm sure it does...you'll just replace batteries a lot more often.

It sucks that they cost a lot more, but...you just cannot rely on an optic on an explicitly reactionary weapon that turns off.

I always thought red dots on pistols was kind of silly but now I'm starting to reconsider.

They are a great addition in certain situations. Always have backup iron sights in place

Yeah. I'd never do anything with the irons. A red dot on a CZ-52 or a Tokarev variant would be a lot of fun. Now I'm thinking dangerous thoughts.

I'm just waiting to see if I get that e-trainer for my birthday or Christmas, otherwise I'll order one after.

I'm still debating between buying a new Glock MOS for EDC or just having the slide milled on the one I already carry. I really would like the Shield RMS on it.
