    Howdy All,

For those interested, the new Field Notes winter release was just made public. The new release -"Expedition" seems like it would be of interest to EDCers. The pages are apparently water- and tear-proof, and the whole notebook is themed for outdoor expeditions.

I have a couple 3-packs coming to me.

Here's a bit from their site:

Just an update - my order arrived the other day. The notebooks are kinda classy - the orange front and black back are made of Yupo (as are the pages).

I did a quick test - not an extreme one - and the pages and cover would not tear or take water.

Apparently, gel pens and heavy ink pens aren't great with it ... which I could tell just from feeling the pages. Fisher Space Pens apparently do quite well (and my Tao uses one).

The list of practical applications in the back (which FN varies for their special Colors runs) is a hoot, and includes:

    01. Equipment Checklists
    05. "How to Do It Next Time"
    14. Inventory of Ammunition
    17. Marion's Address in Nepal
    27. Chopper Maintenance Notes

Nice find on the coupon. Do you know if it's still active?

Would you consider these comparable or better then Rite In The Rain brand?

I haven't yet used the Rite in the Rain books, but the Field Note Expedition is proving pretty indestructible thus far

Uniball Powertank would be a perfect pen for these notebooks.

I'd rate the FN Expedition on par with RITR

Quick necro-thread and photo of the Expedition-style notebook...

The Staedtler "Lumocolor" permanent markers (especially in extra-fine size) seem to work well on the paper, as do the Sakura "Microperm" pens.

That's good to know about the Sakura and Staedtler. I've had good results with Fisher Space Pens.

I've been trying to find a suitable notebook (side bound or stapled) for a while and am just trying out the FN Expeditions. So far so good. Seems like a good pairing with my space pen. I'm doing some motorcycling in SE Asia next month and always like to take a pen & pad with me to note down place names as well as amusing random events. The FN at 48 pages seems like just the job. I think I'm a convert.

I use Rite In The Rain (RITR) notepads and RITR pencils. In a pinch, I can go to Lowe's and pick up a WeatherMax notepad that is nearly as good as the RITR notepads. I stick with RITR and do not venture out to other brands. I use them; They work; They have proven to be reliable; Why change what works?
