Thats not a scribe. Its a spring loaded punch/glass breaker. Its for emergency egress from a car in the event you cant get the door open and the power windows don't work.
example- car accident, car upside down, car in body of water, etc...

I like having a glass breaker on my as well. The Microtech UTX 85 I carry daily has one and I can guarantee it works well. I've broken several pieces of auto glass with it.

I have a resqme feathered to my door handle and another in my bolt bag. It's not the best solution, but it works.

I keep Gerber Hinderer Rescue knife in the sunglass caddy of the Forester. I like the sunglass caddy cause either driver or passenger can reach it even if the car is on its side or up side down

I've heard good things about those.

BTW, does my 2015 not have a sunglasses caddy or am I dumb?

It should, my 15 does. It's a flip down on the roof by the sunroof controls

The knife ain't bad for what it is.

This punch is the only glass breaker I have so far. I plan on getting more and having two in each vehicle we own. One on the passenger side and one on the drivers side in both trucks and our car.

Yeeah...mine doesn't have that. The eyeSight thing apparently replaces it.

Yup, the eyesight takes up all that space, I forgot yours had eyesight as well. Only features I'm missing, and most by choice, is remote/proximity key start, leather, power lift gate and eyesight. I wanted to cut down on the electronics, cause I feel their shelf life is shorter than that of the car.

Btw, how do you like the eyesight tech? From the few I've driven I think I like it.

Well, the turbo outweighed the downsides for me, and the only turbo they had was an xt touring (I think...i don't look at the back of my car very often).

I like the proximity unlock a lot, but it doesn't start the car unless I just haven't seen that button. It should make it easier to steal unless they put more encryption in it than I think they did, but it hasn't come up. The kind of thieves who can do a radio replay attack aren't targeting subarus.

If it's leather, it's not good leather. But I don't care. It's more comfortable than normal cloth.

I disabled the power lift gate because it's annoying as hell. It takes FOREVER to open.

Eyesight....its a mixed bag. It does work, but I usually don't drive with traction control on. And turning off traction control disables it. So, I almost never use it....just for longer road trips in very good weather. It gets worse gas mileage than I do in traffic but better if I'm just cruising on the interstate for a long time. When my GPS says "in 30+ miles..." is when I think about turning it on.

My real complaint is the CVT. Most of the time, it's fine except that it doesn't engine brake. Every now and then it seems like it's stuttering or micro-adjusting back and forth. Switching it into not-really-manual mode fixes it. And neither the dealership nor the independent repair shop can figure out what's going on. I'd swap it for a 5/6-speed in a heartbeat if I could.

I like the car overall, but...whenever it's time to buy a new one, I want a dumb car with a manual. I don't really care if it's a sports car, a muscle car, an SUV, or a truck. I'm sick of cars that do too much useless shit. And I'm really sick of having to pay for bugs masquerading as features and then spend days figuring out how to disable them all.

I know...I'm complaining about a really nice car. I'm sorry. But, the fewer computers the better.
