How do you guys feel about trying to come up with a basic EDC checklist?

Obviously everyone will have different needs depending on their environment and circumstances, but I think we can all agree that their are some core items that should be included. I think providing a basic list would help people new to the EDC concept know where to start.

Here's the improved general check list provided by Doug.

Identification:
IDs, Member Cards, Medical Alert

Currency:
Cash,CCards,Barter items

Communication:
Cellphone, Pen, Pencil, Notepad, Whistle

Orientation:
GPS, Compass, Analog Watch, Map

Light:
Flashlight, Cellphone

Fire:
Lighter, Matches, Firestarter

Cutting/Tools:
Knife, Multi-tool, Prybar

First-Aid:
Medications, Band-Aids, Bandana

Protection:
FireArm, Pepper Spray, Whistle

Sustenance:
Water Bottle, Food, Snacks, Spork

Entertainment:
Music Player, Dice, Playing Cards, Book

My daily pocket stuff: Benchmade Mini-Griptilian, CRKT F-4, SOG Blink (used as money clip), Leatherman Wave, key ring with bottle opener and Leatherman Squirt, phone, pens, bandana and cheap LED flash light (2 for $4, if I lose or bust one, cheap to replace. Although, I do see a Surefire in my future). If I'm carrying my laptop bag, there are various odds and ends, including spoon and fork (I hate the plastic utensil at carry-out places), toothbrush and paste, and deodorant. My "town" backpack has the same personal items, plus 100 ft of cord, a space blanket, Zippo lighter and a SOG Seal Pup.

Any more suggestions for an "official" EDC checklist? Perhaps we can make this a sticky topic and improve it over time?

Very interesting idea here. How do you balance the iron for the stainless bottle to sit on it? My stainless bottle is double walled and insulated, so neither heat nor cold transfer through it well, but I love the idea of this so may need to pick up one that is not insulated.
